At Helix Speech and Debate, we thrive on our team spirit because it's like a competitive team sport. We work hard, compete hard, and we have each other's back ALWAYS! But most importantly - we have a ton of fun in the process!
As a member of the Helix Speech and Debate team, you have the option of competing in individual or partner events. Speakers could choose from "acting heavy" events like Dramatic Interpretation ("DI") or Program Oral Interpretation (POI), or those where you advocate for a cause or bring awareness to a social issue, such as Original Advocacy ("OA") or Original Oratory ("OO"). Likewise, debaters choose from Congress (where you debate pieces of legislation like in the US Congress), Lincoln Douglas ("LD" - where the topics tend to be more philosophical) or Public Forum ("PuFo" - where you work with a partner). And if you're a speaker and a debater - then the options are endless. Our speakers and debaters have used the skills they gained to advocate for others on committees and boards they serve. Our graduates cite their speech and debate experience as a major reason for their success in college.
So come join us! Come be part of something truly amazing!
